IWA 7th Eastern European
Young Water Professionals Conference
Belgrade, Serbia
17 - 19 September 2015

Dear colleagues - young professionals of the water sector,

The conference in Belgrade (Serbia) will be the 7th event organised by IWA for young water professionals from Eastern Europe (including all CIS countries). More than 750 YWPs from 55 countries participated in our six previous conferences: Minsk - 2009, Moscow - 2010, Almaty - 2011, St. Petersburg - 2012, Kiev - 2013 and Istanbul - 2014.

In 2015 we are going to meet again in one of Europe's most historic cities - Belgrade!

Belgrade is not only a beautiful historic city but also easily accessible. Moreover neither citizens of CIS countries nor citizens of the European Union need a visa. For young water professionals coming from low-income countries we have a reduced registration fee; additional reduction is foreseen for IWA members. Many of you who participated in the six previous IWA conferences already know that conference topics have a high level of scientific interest. Coffee-breaks and lunch-breaks are long enough to give young water professionals an opportunity to exchange ideas and build network. The publications will be included in to the Conference Proceedings and water related journals; the best publications will be published in the Journals of IWA. Use this chance to join our network of young water professionals. Looking forward to meeting you all in Belgrade!

Dear young and senior water professionals,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the 7th IWA YWP Conference for young water professionals from Western and Eastern European countries. The YWP family is growing within the borders of Europe that are becoming less and less visible. Water knows no borders; water goes where it wants to go, choosing the shortest path and/or the path of the least resistance. These are the rules of hydraulics but often exactly the same what humans do; and especially, 'young' humans.

By coming together, we have an opportunity to share the awareness about water problems but also the experiences in solving them. The population growth, especially in urban areas, inflicts nowadays an infrastructural stress that is to be mitigated in a sustainable way i.e. with the least of environmental stress. Fortunately, science has given answers to quite some questions, and technologies and tools developed in water supply engineering and management are being readily applied in Europe. Over the past years, the knowledge and understanding of urban water cycle interactions have advanced extensively by embracing various scientific discoveries applied in water supply and sanitation. The IT revolution has also enabled multidirectional information dissemination and the knowledge and expertise are no more exclusive properties of the most developed part of our continent. It is therefore very fitting to organise an event like this, where the experiences about the advances can be presented on a wide range of water issues across Europe. To widen the scope of the conference, this time we have added topics on water distribution, drainage and sewerage, which all complete the urban water cycle without diminishing the relevance of the problems of water in nature.

I would therefore like to invite you to submit the research outputs of your most recent and valuable work demonstrating in particular its relevance to the Eastern European regions. We equally want to get feedback on successful applications and best practices in your countries.

I am confident that apart from en- riching your expert knowledge, this conference will be an eye opener about a Europe you may not know that well. Spending my entire youth in Belgrade, I learnt to define it as a 'city of perfect imperfection'. It is something different and I hope that you will like it. Welcome to Serbia!
